EPHESIANS CHAPTER FOUR
OBSERVATIONS
TABLE OF CONTENTS
The purpose
of the observation stage is to maintain focus on the text at hand in
accordance with the framework in which it was written: a framework
which is defined by the normative rules of language, context and logic
- rules which do not impose undue, unintended meanings to the text ,
and which largely limit the observer to the content offered by Paul's
epistle to the Ephesians and his other writings. In order for any
passage from elsewhere to be considered, it must have a relationship
with the context at hand, such as a Scriptural quotation or a specific
cross reference in the passage at hand by the author. This will serve
to avoid going on unnecessary tangents elsewhere; and more importantly,
it will provide the framework for a proper and objective comparison
with passages located elsewhere in Scripture.
Remember that
something elsewhere may be true, but in the text at hand it may not be
in view.

[(Eph 4:14-16) Commentary On
Eph 4:14-16: In Eph 4:11-13 It Stated That The
Purpose Of The Spiritual Gifts Of Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists,
Pastors And Teachers Was So That The Body Of Christ Could Attain To The
Unity Of The Faith, And Of The Knowledge Of The Son Of God, To A Mature
Man, To The Measure Of The Stature Which Belongs To The Fullness Of
Christ, Whereupon In Eph 4:14-16 It Continues: That We Should No Longer
Be Children, Tossed To And Fro And
Carried About With Every Wind Of Doctrine, By The Trickery Of Men, In
The Cunning Craftiness Of Deceitful Plotting, But Speaking The Truth In
Love, We Are To Grow Up In All Aspects
Into Him Who Is The Head, Even
Christ, From Whom The Whole Body, Being Fitted And Held Together By
What Every Joint Supplies
According To The Proper Working Of Each Individual Part, Causes The
Growth Of The Body For The Building Up Of Itself In Love. And It Is By
His Grace And Sovereignty That
God Will Himself Bring About This Spiritual Progress In The Body Of
Christ Despite The Flawed Nature Of Each And Every Member Through The
Spirit's Working Through The Inner Man Within Each Believer]:
a)
[Compare Col 3:8-11: Paul Having Written In Col 3:8-9, 'But Now You
Yourselves Are To Put Off All These Sins: Anger, Wrath, Malice,
Blasphemy, Filthy Language Out Of Your Mouth, Do Not Lie To One
Another, Since You Have Put Off The Old Man [I.E., The Old Sin Nature]
With His Evil Deeds; Moves To Col 3:10-11 Wherein The Believer's Now
Putting On The New Man In The Sense Of The New Nature Which, By His
Grace, God Provided Within The Believer At The Moment Faith Alone In
Christ Alone Via The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit Who Is The Agent Who
Has Put Within The Believer The New Man / The Inner Man; Who Is Renewed
In Knowledge According To The Image Of Him Who Created The Believer,
Namely God. This Is A Renewal In Which There Will Be No Distinction
Between Greek
And Jew, Circumcied And Uncircumcised, Barbarian, Scythian, Slave And
Freeman, But Christ Is All In All]:
b)
[Compare 2 Cor
4:16-18: We Are Not To Lose Heart. Though The Outer Man / Temporal Body
Is Decaying, Yet Our Inner Man Is Being Renewed By God Day By Day
Producing For Us An Incomparable Eternal Weight Of Glory. Thus We Are
To Look Not At The Things Which Are Seen Which Are Temporal And
Fleeting, But At The Things Which Are Not Seen And Eternal]:
E)
