Concerning the question of Rameses, while the movie portrayed Rameses as being the pharaoh at the time of the Exodus, that actually is not correct, based upon the chronology provided by Genesis and Exodus. Rameses was part of the 19th dynasty and the timing of Moses would be the 18th dynasty. The pharaoh of the Exodus was Amenhotep II. The basic reason he survived is that he, himself, was not the actual firstborn son; but, nevertheless, he was the one who succeeded Thutmose III on the throne. Therefore, he escaped the last plague."
