POEMS
From Elizabeth, my friend from Canada:
Four be the things I am wiser to know:
Idleness, sorrow, a friend and a foe.
Four be the things I'd be better without:
Love, curiosity, freckles and doubt.
Anachronist's answer:
Wisdom is not for me to attain,
except elsewhere and in the main -
the bible for me is most germane;
my study from which must I not abstain.
Idleness an existence would be my bane,
my kind of busy leads to no fame.
Lonely's the fate - my middle name,
its companion - sorrow my lovely dame.
Friends are from afar - few remain,
the cause: my first love, eternal 'fame':
the Word of God - my compass, my plane.
It flies into foes who prove they're insane.
.......................SIGH........................................
So love's a stranger outside my domain;
curiosity a game from which I refrain,
unless it's directed by God in the main.
..........................AND.......................................
Freckles you'd say I've been in brown rain.
Doubt oft the slipping from God's plane.
My purpose in Him will not be in vain -
a cry from which I must never refrain;
it must be directed by truth in His name.
