IS GOD EVERYWHERE?

INTRODUCTION

In one sense God is omnipresent, i.e., fully present everywhere - a concept beyond the capacity of finite man to comprehend but nevertheless taught in Scripture which is 100% reliable. In another sense, God has throughout the ages has made Himself presonally present in a finite special way to certain individuals in certain specific places for His purposes.

GOD IS IN HEAVEN

[Mt 6:9]:

" 'This [Jesus said to His disciples], then, is how you should pray:

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be Your name,

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

[Heb 9:23-24]:

(v. 23) "It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

(v. 24) For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence."

GOD WAS PERSONALLY PRESENT IN THE TEMPLE AND AT VARIOUS TIMES WITH HIS PEOPLE ISRAEL

[Ps 27:4]:

"One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple."

[Ex 33:13-15]:

(v. 13) "If You [the LORD] are pleased with me, [Moses], teach me your ways so I may know You and continue to find favor with You. Remember that this nation is Your people.'

(v. 14) The LORD replied, 'My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'

(v. 15) Then Moses said to Him, 'If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.' "

GOD IS OMNIPRESENT

[Psa 139]:

(v. 7) "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?

(v. 8) If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths [sheol = the underworld, i.e., place of afterdeath] You are there;

(v. 9) If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,

(v. 10) even there Your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."

[Jer 23:23-24]:

(v. 23) " 'Am I only a God nearby,' declares the LORD, 'and not a God far away?'

(v. 24) Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?' declares the LORD. 'Do not I fill heaven and earth?' declares the LORD."
