ALMIGHTY
SOME MAINTAIN THAT ONLY WHEN THE WORD RENDERED ALMIGHTY APPEARS IS JEHOVAH GOD IN VIEW
I) APPEARANCES OF THE WORD "ALMIGHTY" WITH GOD IN THE NEW TESTAMENT:
2 Cor 6:18; Jas 5:4; Rev 1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7, 14; 19:15; 21:22.
Notable absences: nowhere in the gospels.
Jn 1:1b, "and the Word was with God" - "almighty" is absent. Was the Word who is maintained as a lesser god with another lesser god? How many gods are there?
II) SCRIPTURE INDICATES THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD
A) [Compare Isa 45:5-6 NASB]:
(Isa 45:5 NASB) "I am the LORD [Yahweh], and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God [ElOhim]. I will gird you, though you have not known Me;
(Isa 45:6 NASB) That men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun That there is no one besides Me. I am the LORD [Yahweh], and there is no other,"
III) MANY PLACES IN THE OLD TESTAMENT REFER TO JEHOVAH GOD WITHOUT THE WORD ALMIGHTY
A) [Ex 3:6]:
(Ex 3:6 NASB) "He said also, 'I am the God [ElOhim] of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God." - the word rendered 'almighty' is not present.
B) [Mt 22:32]:
(Mt 22:32 NASB) " 'I AM THE GOD [Theos] OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."
C) [Compare to Gen 17:1 which does have the word "almighty"]
(Gen 17:1 NASB) "Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, 'I am God Almighty [El Shadday]; Walk before Me, and be blameless.' "
